@Anon - starting “Really” - I found a few different articles describing what a GSW to the abdomen felt like, and what surgery might be needed. In terms of recovery time, I was guided by just one article. Maybe it was overly optimistic 🤷‍♀️. Glad you liked the rest of the story 😊.

The GSW would have been washed away at the motel. He didn't go home until the next day.
I may have mis-read but it seemed he buried her before they released her body. I will re-read again later.
