Patients With AIDS (Off-label) Adult: 40 mg orally every 12 hours for 5 days, then 40 mg orally every 24 hours for 5 days, then 20 mg every 24 hours for 11 days. Children younger than 12 years: 1 mg/kg orally every 12 hours for 5 days, then 0.5-1 mg/kg orally every 12 hours for 5 days, then 0.5 mg/kg orally every 24 hours for 11-21 days.
